ChessChess in Concert

12th - 13th May 2008

The Royal Albert Hall is presenting two breathtaking performances of a new and distinctive version of Chess in Concert. Chess features lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Abba’s Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. This rock production will feature top selling US recording artist, Josh Groban and Broadway sensation, Idina Menzel playing the musical’s two lovers.

Chess in Concert involves a romantic triangle between two players in a World Chess Championship, and the woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any specific individuals, the characters’ personalities are loosely based on those of Victor Korchnoi and Bobby Fischer.

The story has been streamlined and will feature a 50-piece orchestra (The City of London Philharmonic), a 100 strong choir (the West End Chorus), some stellar principals and the largest pipe organ in Europe.
