South African Football Stadia

This is a brief guide to the 10 stadia that will host the 64 matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. Five of the stadia have undergone renovations to either improve the facilities or increase capacity, whilst the other five are being built especially for the tournament.

FIFA-SA-Stadia

Green Point

Location: Cape Town
Capacity: 70,000

Green Point Stadium will have the magnificent back drop of Table Mountain.

Free State

Location: Mangaung/Bloemfontein
Capacity: 48,000

The renovation to Free State Stadium will see an increased capacity of 10,000.

Ellis Park

Location: Johannesburg
Capacity: 61,000

Ellis Park played host to this year's Confederations Cup Final and The Rugby World Cup Final in 1995, where South Africa beat New Zealand.

Mbombela

Location: Nelspruit
Capacity: 46,000

Mbombela translated from siSwati stands for 'many people together in a small space'.

Loftus Versfeld

Location: Pretoria
Capacity: 50,000

Named after Robert Own Loftus Road who is attributed with establishing organised sport in Pretoria in 1903.

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Location: Port Elizabeth
Capacity: 48,000

The new stadium is to be built next to the spectacular setting of the North End Lake.

Durban Stadium

Location: Durban
Capacity: 70,000

The Stadiums arch symbolises the new unity of a once divided country.

Soccer City

Location: Johannesburg
Capacity: 94,700

Soccer City is situated just outside of Soweto where people are overly passionate about football.

Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Location: Rustenburg
Capacity: 42,000

Bafokeng Stadium takes it's name from the people who live in the area.

Peter Mokaba

Location: Polokwane
Capacity: 46,000

Named after political activist during Apartheid - known for his fighting spirit and leadership.
