Autumn internationals news: Dan Ward-Smith eager to impress

Dan Ward-Smith hopes to put himself in line to be picked for the autumn internationals and 2011 World Cup on this summer's tour to the southern hemisphere.

The giant Wasps number eight, who can also in the second row or as a flanker, has been named in England coach Martin Johnson's 44-man squad to face Australia, the Barbarians and the New Zealand Maori.

Although the entire team will be hoping to impress, Ward-Smith is particularly keen to stand out, given that he has never featured in an international despite being on the fringe of the side for a number of years.

"I've still not played for England and I really want to leave a positive mark in coaches' minds on this tour," the former Bristol man told Sky Sports.

If Ward-Smith can impress against the Wallabies, it could stand him in good stead for selection in the autumn internationals, which kick off on November 6th 2010 with a match against New Zealand.
