FIFA World Cup news: Gerrard unhappy with form

Steven Gerrard has said he hopes his form improves before he sets off on England's FIFA World Cup campaign.

The Liverpool captain's patchy performances have contributed to the Reds' disappointing 2009-10 campaign, which sees them languishing in sixth place in the Premier League, 18 points adrift of leaders Manchester United.

He admitted he is "not totally happy" with his current form and is some way short of the level he wants to be playing at.

But Gerrard, who is also vice captain of the England side, told Sky Sports News he is still upbeat about his chances of getting back to his best ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

"It is not worrying me as I still have confidence that it can switch and turn at any given time," the midfielder said.

"The challenge for me now in the remaining games is to step up."

He added that he is eager to lead Liverpool to a fourth-place league finish and the final of the Europa League before taking part in the FIFA World Cup this summer.
