Fabio Capello should not be worried about Wayne Rooney being overworked in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup, Alan Shearer has said.
Rooney has been in superb form this season and looks on track to surpass his previous goalscoring record of 23 strikes in one campaign, having already struck 20 times in all competitions in 2009-10.
Although the Manchester United striker said he is aware there is likely to be some conflict over his continued selection between club boss Sir Alex Ferguson and England manager Capello, Rooney said he is keen to play whenever he is selected.
And former Newcastle United legend Shearer backed up the 24-year-old on the issue, stating that there is no need to give a player like Rooney a break.
"I wouldn't bother resting him - I don't think he appreciates being rested either," Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live. "He seems to thrive on playing and he hates missing games."
