As World Cup 2010 looms ahead, Sir Alex Ferguson has stepped out to calm English fears by saying Wayne Rooney will be fit for the football calendar's main event.
Concerns were raised after 24-year-old Rooney limped off during Manchester United's match against Stoke on Saturday 9th May with only 13 minutes of the game left to play.
Sir Alex said that Rooney had aggravated the groin injury he had suffered last month and quashed fears that the Manchester United and England striker would not be able to play in this summer's FIFA World Cup.
Ferguson said: "I don't think it is serious. I think he will be OK for England."
England coach Fabio Capello is set to announce the provisional English World Cup 2010 squad tomorrow, Tuesday 11th May, just a month before England kick off their Group C matches on June 12th against the United States.
The final 23-strong England squad who will be travelling to South Africa for this summer's World Cup must be confirmed by June 1st.
