Hairspray Theatre Packages

Keith Prowse is delighted to offer hospitality packages for Hairspray, a bright, fresh and energetic show.  Based on the film, written and directed by John Waters, Hairspray became a Broadway hit when it was premiered at the Neil Simon Theatre in the summer of 2002.  Hairspray is directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

Hairspray is set in 1962 where the 50’s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore’s Tracey Turnblad is a big girl, with big hair and an even bigger heart.  She has one big dream; to dance. The story follows the fortunes of the teenager who yearns to perform on the Corny Collins Dance Show. Overnight, Tracey fulfils her lifelong ambition; becoming a massive hit on the show and is transformed from a loner to teen sensation overnight.

The smash-hit award-winning musical “HAIRSPRAY” at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London recouped its entire £3.5 million capitalisation in a record-breaking 29 weeks. The show opened on 30 October 2007 to universal critical acclaim and smash hit business. At the 2008 Olivier Awards, “HAIRSPRAY” won ‘Best Musical’, as well as ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ for Michael Ball, and ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ for Leanne Jones. The show has also won ‘Best Musical’ at the Evening Standard Awards, the Whatsonstage.com awards, the Critics Circle Awards and the Variety Club Showbiz Awards.  The musical continues to break all box office records at the theatre and is now booking until April 2010.

This is a wonderfully upbeat show with a classic feel as it keeps in touch with the story’s setting in the early 1960’s. Hairspray is a must see for anyone who fancies a sensational night out on London’s West End!

From 8 November 2009, Hairspray will begin Sunday performances with a new all-star cast which includes: comedy star, Phil Jupitus, pop icon Belinda Carlisle, and West End legend Sharon D Clarke all join the cast of Hairspray.
