The Arctic Adventure – Lulea Hospitality

January - April 2012

This is definitely an experience of a lifetime, hunting the Northern Lights north of the Arctic Circle. This Artic journey will start
with a visit to Abisko, 300kms north of the Arctic Circle, which is known as the Northern Lights capital of the world. Here a real adventure awaits you with a program including some amazing activities such as dog sledding, snowmobile safaris, a visit to the Ice Hotel, driving on ice, a unique gala dinner on ice and hopefully a good chance of capturing the Northern Lights.

Probably the best snowmobile trip in Lapland, the 4-hour pack ice snowmobile safari takes you straight to the endless pack-ice fields of Brändöskär with 20 foot ice packs created by wind on the frozen sea. Husky Sled Dog Adventure sees you travel through the last pristine river valley in Sweden and the chance to see reindeers running free on the trails alongside other wild animals. The dinner on ice is an experience for all the senses, snow white landscape in the midwinter darkness, candelabra, linen table-cloths, a crackling fire and gourmet food. All on ice 300 meters out in the Gulf of Bothnia.

Hospitality Extras

If you want to extend your stay and make the most of your trip, why not try the following:

Skiing – For those wanting to try something new then why not do the cross country skiis or snowshoes and spend half a day doing something a little different. There is a downhill track in Kiruna too!

Ice Fishing – Drilling a hole through the outer skin of a frozen river or lake and dangling a rod into the void brings an anticipation and possibly dinner too!

Overnight stay at the Ice Hotel – A night in an ice suite at the Ice Hotel is quite an experience – at -5, surrounded by ice art and cocooned in your Arctic sleeping bag there is no other hotel like it!

A night in Stockholm at ABBA's Rival Hotel – A mini city break in Stockholm either on the way up to Kiruna or on the way back. The ABBA owned Rival Hotel makes a good stop.

Orcas in the Norwegian Fjords – Between end of November and early January the orcas come into Tysfjord to hunt for herring. This extension to a 3 night stay would allow you to travel into the Fjords and using Zodiacs get up close to these fantastic mammals.
