Age is just a number, argues Ryan Sidebottom

Ryan Sidebottom has hit out at suggestions he is too old to star for England in matches watched by people with Test match tickets

The left-arm pace bowler missed out on the recent two-match series with Bangladesh and was forced to watch on as the likes of Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad and Steven Finn put in some impressive performances.

Despite the emerging bowling talent which England's selectors are able to call on at present, Sidebottom believes he can still play an important role in matches watched by fans with Test match tickets

He brushed off the idea that, at 32, his chances of winning a recall to the national side could be slipping away, telling the Nottingham Post: "I believe I shouldn't be written off just yet.

"It's not about your age but what you do with the ball when the umpire calls play."

In 22 Tests for England, the Nottinghamshire ace has taken 79 wickets at an average of 28.24.
