England cricket star Alastair Cook has collected his MBE awarded in the wake of his 766-run scoring glut in the Ashes series in Australia last year.

Cook picked up his award from the Queen at Buckingham Palace and commented afterwards: "It's been a fantastic couple of years for the England cricket team and for me to be here and get the MBE is an honour - I feel very humble to be given it."

He added that Her Majesty is well aware of England's success and he reiterated his desire to be part of a side that goes on winning.

This year also saw Cook make his highest Test score when he hit 294 against India at Edgbaston and those enjoying corporate hospitality when England play a Test against the West Indies on the ground next summer may be keen to see if he can enjoy more success there.

Cook's Ashes tally was the second largest by an Englishman in Australia, beaten only by Walter Hammond's huge haul of 905 runs in the 1928-29 series.
