Alastair Cook: I deserve criticism if I fail to produce
05/08/2010
Alastair Cook has said he expects to be criticised if he fails to score big runs in front of fans with Test match tickets.
The opening batsman found the going tough in the first match of the England v Pakistan series. Despite the fact the Andrew Strauss's men managed a commanding 354-run victory, the Essex star scored just 20 runs in two innings.
Cricket enthusiasts with Test match tickets have not seen him reach a three-figure score in his last three appearances in the longest form of the game.
However, Cook explained in his column for the Metro that being criticised for failing to produce is all part of Test cricket and revealed that it does not faze him.
"I expect scrutiny because as an opening batsman I'm there to give the side a platform by scoring runs," the 25-year-old wrote. "I'll keep working hard, concentrating on my game and the runs will come."
