Alastair Cook narrowly missed out on a Test century as Pakistan staged a late fightback on the second day of the second Test between the two countries in Abu Dhabi.

Cook was out lbw for 94 to Saeed Ajmal, one of three late victims for the spinner as England slid from 198-2 to 207-5 at the close, still 50 behind.

Earlier, the opener had shared a stand of 139 with Jonathan Trott (74) as the tourists looked set to captalise on their outstanding start to the day, when Pakistan lost their last three wickets for just one run to be bowled out for 257.

Fans hoping to see Cook in the runs while enjoying hospitality packages next summer may opt for the Edgbaston Test, where England play the West Indies, as he made his highest Test score of 294 there last year against India.

The last time Cook was out in the 90s in a Test was when he fell for 96 against Sri Lanka at Lord's last year, but on that occasion he made amends with a century in the second innings.ADNFCR-2911-ID-801276307-ADNFCR
