Andrew Strauss warns of England Test challenges
25/11/2011
England Test captain Andrew Strauss has said the team faces a big challenge over the "next 12 to 18 months" as it seeks to stay on top of the rankings.
Speaking as Investec was unveiled as the new sponsor of Test cricket in England, Strauss stated: "It's a different mindset being the hunted rather than the hunters. We'll have to retain that desperate desire to improve if we want to stay on top."
The metaphor may have been apt as the captain stood next to a life-sized model Zebra - Investec's emblem - on the Lords outfield, while those enjoying hospitality packages at the ground for the Tests against the West Indies and South Africa next summer may be in for a treat, as Strauss praised both those sides.
He suggested the West Indies are on the way back up, while noting the South Africans have played well in England in recent times.
The new deal between the England and Wales Cricket Board and Investec will cover ten years up to 2021, the longest sponsorship deal the board has ever secured.
