Autumn internationals news: Abendanon out to impress England selectors

25/03/2010

With his hundredth appearance for Bath looming, Nick Abendanon has spoken of his desire to force his way back into the England set-up ahead of the autumn internationals.

The full-back will complete the milestone when he turns out for his club side against Harlequins on March 27th 2010, having recently signed a new contract keeping him at the West Country outfit for the next two years.

Speaking to the Bath Chronicle, Abendanon said now that he has resolved the doubts surrounding his future, he is keen to focus on impressing England coach Martin Johnson with a view to being picked for matches such as the autumn internationals.

"Hopefully I might catch the eye of a few England selectors and be in the same form as when they picked me last season," he said.

Abendanon was capped twice back in 2007 but has since fallen down the England pecking order.

He will hope that a strong end to the current season and a positive start to the next campaign can push him ahead of Delon Armitage and Ben Foden, Johnson's current favoured incumbents for the role of full-back.
