Autumn internationals news: Toby Flood hopeful of keeping number ten shirt
13/05/2010
Toby Flood has high hopes that he might be able to secure his spot as England's first choice number ten for this year's autumn internationals.
The Leicester Tigers player this week claimed to welcome the competition for the fly-half position for the national team's upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, but suggested he is looking to ensure he gets into the starting 15 ahead of rivals Charlie Hodgson, Shane Geraghty and Jonny Wilkinson.
"Jonny's been playing really well and is always going to be in the frame but you'd always want to start a game and hopefully I'll get my chance," the Metro quoted him as saying, as he spoke on behalf of QBE insurance.
Flood added that the tour is an excellent chance to showcase his abilities against difficult opposition, which could put him in good stead for the autumn internationals when England are set to face off against Australia, Samoa, South Africa and New Zealand.
