Birthday boy Broad helps England to 2-0 ODI series lead

25/06/2010

England's bowlers proved to be the difference in yesterday's (June 24th 2010) four-wicket victory over Australia, which was watched by fans with ODI tickets in Cardiff.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Baggy Greens captain Ricky Ponting saw his men set a solid foundation before Tim Paine was caught behind off the bowling of Stuart Broad with the score on 51.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Broad marking his 24th birthday with figures of four for 44, leaving the Aussies to rely on a defiant 86 not out from Cameron White to guide them to a below-par 239.

Fans with ODI tickets watched on as England made light work of the chase, reaching their target with 28 balls to spare thanks to 51 from captain Andrew Strauss and 52 from Eoin Morgan.

Three matches now remain in the five-game series, with England leading 2-0 having also won by four wickets at the Rose Bowl earlier this week.
