Colin Montgomerie: I wish Ryder Cup was 30-a-side

24/06/2010

Colin Montgomerie has said he wishes he could pick more players to compete in front of fans with Ryder Cup hospitality tickets.

The European captain has said he will be hard-pushed when picking his 12-man squad to take on the US this October, with four of the selections having to be made by himself.

"You can usually get three out of four but what we are seeing this time is that it's not going to be so easy," Monty was quoted by the Daily Record as saying.

He went on to state that he could illustrate the strength in depth of European golf at present if he was allowed to choose to field a larger team in front of people with Ryder Cup hospitality tickets.

"I wish it was 30 against 30 when we go to Celtic Manor," he commented.

Five European golfers - Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy - are currently among the world's top ten players.
