Dernbach called into England squad

Lord's hospitality guests attending England's second test against Sri Lanka may be seeing a new generation of bowlers take on the visitors, as James Anderson has been forced to withdraw due to injury.

In his place, the selectors have called up uncapped Surrey player Jade Dernbach to the side to act as cover for the injured seamer.

He is expected to be a backup option should the side suffer any more fitness problems, with Steven Finn likely to take Anderson's place in the starting line-up to form a three-pronged seam attack alongside Stuart Broad and Chris Tremlett.

South Africa-born Dernbach has yet to make an appearance in the full England side, though he impressed recently by taking nine wickets against the Sri Lankans while playing for the England Lions in a warm-up match for the visitors.

England may miss the threat Anderson poses with his ability to swing the ball on the famous sloping pitch at Lord's, although they acquitted themselves well in his absence in the second innings in the first test, with Tremlett stepping up to take new ball as the tourists were dismissed for just 82 to hand England an unlikely victory.
