Donald 'would trade number 1 spot for majors'

15/06/2011

Open Championship hospitality guests may be interested to hear the thoughts of world number one Luke Donald prior to this week's US Open.

The Englishman said that, while being ranked as the world's top golfer is a "great achievement", he would happily trade the position for a haul of major titles, such as those won by Phil Mickelson.

On his form recently, he said it has been a "very satisfying few months", adding: "I've played extremely well. I've given myself lots of opportunities and I have taken a couple of them."

Donald also stated that his first goal for the competition at the Congressional Country Club in Maryland is to make sure he is in contention going into the final day.

He added he has been doing this a lot recently and there is no reason why he cannot carry this good form into the tournament.

Donald will tee off for his first round tomorrow (June 17th) alongside world number two Lee Westwood and number three Martin Kaymer, which will give spectators a rare chance to see all three top players on the course together.
