England return home after draw
26/06/2012
The England rugby team is returning home after coming close to a rare victory in South Africa.
A 14-14 draw in Port Elizabeth was only the second time the sides had ever finished level, but it was England who had the best chance to win when, with the last action of the game, Owen Farrell was unable to produce a winning drop goal.
Danny Care has scored a try for the tourists in the first half, before JB Pietersen crossed the line for the Springboks in the second half to put them ahead, with Farrell equalising from a penalty before trying in vain for the winning score.
Fans enjoying hospitality at the QBE International between England and the South Africans at Twickenham in November may approach the event with optimism that England will win.
Welsh rugby fans may also be optimistic despite being whitewashed by Australia down under, with the home side again sneaking home in the final Test by the closest possible margin, a 20-19 defeat in Sydney following their 25-23 loss in the second Test at Melbourne.
