England rugby tickets news: Harry Ellis staying put, says Cockerill

22/04/2010

Harry Ellis will have to battle his way back into Leicester Tigers' first team next season if he is to play in front of fans with England rugby tickets.

The scrum-half has been out of favour at Welford Road all year and has struggled with a knee injury, with speculation abounding that he could be set to leave his hometown club in the summer.

But head coach Richard Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester that Ellis will have to see out the final year of his contract with the Tigers and attempt to win the number nine shirt back from Ben Youngs and James Grindal.

Not playing regular first-team rugby will affect the 27-year-old's chances of playing in front of fans with England rugby tickets in the future.

"Harry is under contract," said Cockerill. "As far as I am aware, Harry will be here next year and as I am in charge, I should probably know what is happening."

In recent weeks, Leicester stalwarts Lewis Moody and Sam Vesty both agreed deals to join arch-rivals Bath at the end of the season.
