Eoin Morgan ton helps England see off Australia in first ODI
23/06/2010
Eoin Morgan has once again proved his importance to England in matches watched by fans with ODI tickets after he starred in the victory over Australia.
The Irish batsman smashed an unbeaten 103 from just 85 deliveries to help Andrew Strauss's men chase down their rivals' competitive total of 267 with a full four overs remaining.
Ricky Ponting's side will perhaps feel they should have posted a higher target after all of their batsmen made starts. All seven of the men dismissed got into double figures, but none scored higher than 34, leaving Michael Clarke to steady the ship with 87 not out.
England's response stuttered to 97 for four at one stage, but Morgan - ably assisted by Luke Wright (36) and Tim Bresnan (27) - managed to see the side over the line.
Fans with ODI tickets for the second match in the five-game series have until tomorrow to wait, with the remaining fixtures taking place on June 27th 2010 at Old Trafford and June 30th at the Brit Insurance Oval, before the final clash comes to Lord's on July 3rd.
