Cheltenham Festival VIP entertaining news: Schofield gets Taranis Gold Cup ride

01/02/2010

Those enjoying Cheltenham Festival VIP entertaining next month will be able to see Nick Schofield return with Taranis after a successful run at the venue on Saturday (January 30th).

The amateur champion bided his time during the Argento Chase, running slowly in order to give the recovering horse a steady build-up to the final hill, and has now secured a place in the Gold Cup.

Paul Nicholls, who trains Taranis, was impressed with the 20-year-old's win and has invited him back to have a second run at the Cheltenham Festival in mid-March.

Nicholls said: "He'll go straight for the Gold Cup now. Obviously Kauto Star and Denman are out in front but if this fellow improves a bit, and he should, he won't be far behind them."

The Times recently reported that Denman is still currently looking for a rider, with Ruby Walsh, Barry Geraghty and AP McCoy all in the running for a seat on the horse for the Gold Cup.
