24/02/2010
Nikolay Davydenko is likely to be hoping for an improvement in his form ahead of his appearance in front of tennis enthusiasts with Wimbledon tickets.
The world number six was given a scare in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships by hard-hitting Frenchman Florent Serra, who won the first set of their clash but was eventually beaten 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1.
Had he been beaten in the match, it would have been Davydenko's worst defeat on the ATP circuit for almost two years.
Speaking after the match, the Russian revealed that he had found things tough against his opponent Serra, who is ranked 59th in the world.
As well as blaming a number of individual mistakes for the first-set loss, Davydenko said that he found the ball was very fast and hard to control throughout the match.
He added: "Normally I try to come to a tournament and try to do no mistakes. But here it was not possible."
Fans with Wimbledon tickets will learn the outcome of Andy Murray's second round clash with Janko Tipsarevic later today (February 24th 2010).
