World Cup tickets news: No witch hunt on John Terry, urges Stuart Pearce
03/02/2010
England football fans with World Cup tickets have been urged by Stuart Pearce to rally round and support John Terry as captain of the national side.
The former England and Nottingham Forest full-back, who was nicknamed Psycho for his ferocious on-field displays, said that fans and pundits should keep out of the debate over Terry's future in the post.
Allegations of an affair between the Chelsea centre-half and the ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge have dominated the front and back pages of newspapers over the last few days.
While many have called for Fabio Capello to axe Terry from the captaincy, Pearce said that the England coach should be allowed to make his own mind up.
"I think the last decision should always be the manager's decision on whatever goes on," he told Sky Sports. "I'm not a big lover of witch hunts of people."
Pearce went on to describe the 29-year-old as a "selfless professional" who is "fantastic" when playing for his country.
