World Cup tours news: John Terry allegations will affect the England squad, warns Martinez
04/02/2010
England football fans planning World Cup tours will hope that Roberto Martinez's predictions of dressing room disruption do not prove to be true.
Wigan manager Martinez gave his opinion on the current scandal surrounding England captain John Terry's alleged affair with the ex-girlfriend of fellow international Wayne Bridge, warning that the controversy is likely to affect the whole squad.
The former Swansea boss stated that off-field issues of this nature could cause the team to lose respect for Terry.
He went on to describe leading a side as being a "very intense role" which offers no margin for error.
"The role you have on the pitch, in your football club, is more important than your private life," Martinez said.
The Spaniard's comments come after England under-21 boss Stuart Pearce warned fans and the media not to turn the Terry incident into a "witch hunt".
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former international left-back added that the Chelsea skipper is always fantastic when playing for his country.
