Fans enjoying Premier League hospitality at Chelsea games may have been delighted to see Frank Lampard back on the scoresheet as he scored the only goal in England's 1-0 victory over world champions Spain.

The Chelsea midfielder and captain for the night was first to react when Darren Bent's header hit the post four minutes after half time and he gleefully nodded the ball into the net.

Lampard played the game as a largely holding midfielder alongside Phil Jones and Scott Parker as England set out to contain the Spanish, who predictably dominated possession through midfield maestros Iniesta and Xavi.

Eventually, the Chelsea midfielder was replaced by Gareth Barry, but his decisive intervention ensured the likes of former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and several other Barcelona players endured a rare taste of defeat.

After England play Sweden this week in another friendly at Wembley, the Premier League resumes and Chelsea face a crunch game with rivals Liverpool.

Having lost 5-3 at home in their last outing at Stamford Bridge, the team will be keen to pick up three points to bolster their home form ahead of a clash with table-toppers Manchester City next month.
