Gavin Henson to be assessed ahead of Six Nations
19/01/2012
Gavin Henson's controversial call-up to the Welsh Six Nations squad may not mean he actually walks back into the team, with coach Warren Gatland disclosing that his form and fitness will be monitored at a training camp ahead of the tournament.
Those planning to enjoy corporate hospitality at the Millennium Stadium during Welsh home games learned the make-up of the squad yesterday (January 18th), with Henson's inclusion being defended by Gatland afterwards.
Admitting that the player is "underdone" after playing just three times for Cardiff Blues so far this season, he stated: "It just gives us a chance, particularly going to Poland next week, to have another look at him."
Picking a large squad with a smattering of young players means there are plenty of options when it comes to selecting the side, he noted.
Earlier this week, former Wales flanker Emyr Lewis told BBC Sport he thought Henson should be left out, arguing there are currently "far better" players available to the Welsh national side.
