Glorious Goodwood hospitality guests attending the five-day race meeting next week may be pleased to hear that the organisers have declared the course to be in excellent condition.

Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley said that recent weather conditions have been perfect for the surface, which has not needed to be watered since May as it has soaked up 148 mm of rain.

"The track is in great condition with a lovely covering of grass and has recovered well from the racing at our earlier meetings," he said, adding the stage is set for five days of "superb" action.

He forecast that the going will be good or good to firm for the opening day of the festival on July 26th, while the Sussex Stakes on the following day is expected to take place in perfect flat racing conditions.

This race is expected to be a two-way battle between Canford Cliffs and Frankel, with Canford Cliffs' team believing the small size of the field will be to their horse's benefit as he looks to triumph over the 2,000 guineas winner.
