Henley Regatta corporate tickets news: Olympic gold medallist to appear at Thames event

19/05/2010

People with Henley Regatta corporate tickets will have the chance to see an Olympic gold medallist in the rowing competition.

The Times reported that Greg Searle, now 38, is to be part of the men's eight.

He told the paper that it was "a brilliant privilege" to participate.

It has been ten years since he was on the team and he has been undergoing intense training and testing in order to be chosen again after the hiatus.

Jurgen Grobler, chief coach for the men's team, added that Searle had not simply been given the place because of his Olympic gold win, but that he had needed to demonstrate his ability.

Back in December, the Telegraph reported that Searle was "on a comeback trail" and had his sights set on rowing during the regatta in August 2012.

He observed to the paper that he had won the gold medal in August 1992 and loved the idea of being able to gain another victory almost exactly 20 years later.
