Cricket hospitality news: Andrew Strauss rested for Bangladesh tour
18/01/2010
England cricket fans with test match tickets for the summer series against Bangladesh may be set to witness a reinvigorated Andrew Strauss.
The captain and opening batsman, who led the side to success in the One Day International tournament over South Africa but was held to a draw by the Proteas in the subsequent five-day campaign, has been rested from England's tour to Bangladesh.
It means that Strauss's next opportunity for international test match cricket will come in the return leg of the series in England, which gets underway on May 31st 2010.
Vice captain Alistair Cook will step up in Strauss's absence from the squad, with fast bowler James Anderson also given a break.
"Alastair will now have an opportunity to develop his leadership skills still further by leading the side in both forms of cricket in Bangladesh," said national selector Geoff Miller.
Uncapped Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry has been called up to the test squad in Strauss's absence.
