Frank Lampard has told England football fans with World Cup tickets not to get too carried away at the team's prospects in the competition.

Chelsea midfielder Lampard, who is set to be one of England's key players at the tournament, said the squad has confidence in its abilities.

However, the 31-year-old revealed that at the moment, the players are not thinking about lifting the trophy.

England's core of experienced players have seen the hype before international tournaments before, with the side being placed among the favourites prior to the World Cup action getting underway this summer.

Lampard moved to cool the expectations of England football fans, saying: "It doesn't really matter what you say before the tournament, or what your form is like a few months before it.

"What really matters is how you play when you get there."

Another of England's most important players in South Africa is Wayne Rooney, who Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently declared could go on to be the star of the tournament.ADNFCR-2911-ID-19565163-ADNFCR
