South Africa World Cup News: Wayne Rooney praises Capello influence

27/01/2010

Wayne Rooney will be hoping he can repay Fabio Capello at the South Africa World Cup for his current fine form.

The Manchester United striker has netted 20 times in all competitions so far this season, including all the goals in last weekend's 4-0 victory over Hull City.

It means the 24-year-old is well on track to beat his previous best-ever total of 23 goals in a single season.

And Rooney has attributed his goalscoring success this campaign to the work of England manager Capello, whom he said was behind the decision to move him to a more central position.

"Capello has taught me so much from a tactical point of view and given me the job of leader," Rooney told the Mirror. "He's frightening, like a severe dad."

Earlier this month, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that he believes Rooney can be the star of the South Africa World Cup, describing him as a "fantastic player".
