Wimbledon corporate hospitality news: Andy Murray shines in Australia
05/01/2010
People hoping to see a home triumph during their Wimbledon corporate hospitality experience may have been heartened by Great Britain's performance in their Hopman Cup opener in Perth.
Their first tie against Kazakhstan began with Laura Robson, the 2008 Wimbledon girls' singles winner, suffering a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 defeat to Yaroslava Shvedova.
Andy Murray, the world number four, responded by crushing Andrey Golubev 6-2, 6-2 to ensure the mixed doubles match was a decider.
Robson, still only 15, and Murray edged a tight match by winning the third set tiebreak 12-10 to ensure Great Britain's campaign got off to a successful start.
The duo are likely to face much sterner tests in their remaining group games against Germany and Russia.
Murray's match against Golubev was his first of what promises to be a big season for the Scot, who is the highest ranked player not to have won a Grand Slam event.
However, those enjoying a Wimbledon corporate hospitality experience in 2010 may not be the ones to see him break his duck, as Murray recently said he believes it is currently harder than ever to win a Grand Slam because of the quality of the other top players.
