Wimbledon hospitality news: Andy Murray falls to fifth in the world

12/01/2010

Andy Murray may be spurred on to perform strongly in front of Wimbledon hospitality ticketholders this summer after his world ranking dropped.

The Scottish player fell to number five in the world after being overtaken by Juan Martin de Potro, following his decision to opt out of the Qatar Open last week at the expense of a doubles appearance at the Hopman Cup alongside emerging British talent Laura Robson.

It is Murray's lowest ranking since August 2008 and his seen him seeded below Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and del Potro for the Australian Open in Melbourne, which gets underway on January 16th 2010.

However, Murray said he would not let the slump in rankings affect his game, telling the Daily Record: "I really don't think the seedings make any difference.

"If you get to the quarter-finals you're going to have to beat the best players anyway."

Tennis fans who had Wimbledon hospitality tickets to last year's event may recall that Andy Murray lost out in the semi-finals to Andy Roddick.ADNFCR-2911-ID-19552710-ADNFCR
