Wimbledon tickets news: Andy Murray compares Australian Open to SW19

20/01/2010

Conditions at the Australian Open are similar to playing in front of tennis fans with Wimbledon tickets, Andy Murray has said.

The current world number four, who was seeded fifth at the start of the Melbourne tournament after turning down the chance to appear in the Qatar Open, has started strongly in Australia.

He has progressed to the third round after brushing aside Frenchman Marc Gicquel in straight sets, losing just eight games in the process.

And after playing under the roof at the Rod Laver Arena for the first time earlier this week, Murray compared the experience to appearing in front of tennis enthusiasts with Wimbledon tickets.

"It actually slows the court down like at Wimbledon," he said. "It gets quite humid in there, whereas it's pretty dry heat normally and it's just quite heavy."

He went on to add he was pleased to get through the match, given that a number of players on the outdoor courts were held up by a series of rain delays.ADNFCR-2911-ID-19567672-ADNFCR
