World Cup 2010 news: Wayne Rooney not keen for a rest

25/01/2010

Wayne Rooney has said that he is not keen on taking a break from club football ahead of England's World Cup 2010 campaign.

The Manchester United striker has been in fine form this season and broke a personal goalscoring record last weekend by finding the net four times in the 4-0 rout of Hull City. It was the first time he has scored four goals in a professional match.

England boss Fabio Capello will be hoping that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson takes the chance to rest his prize asset ahead of the tournament in South Africa, something that Rooney is aware of.

"I'm sure Sir Alex and Fabio Capello have different ideas for me for the rest of the season," he said. "But I want to play and whenever I'm asked, I will."

Earlier this month, Sir Alex said that Rooney is capable of going on to be the star of World Cup 2010, calling the forward a "fantastic player".
