World Cup tour news: Darren Bent determined to claim England squad place

11/01/2010

Darren Bent has revealed his eagerness for World Cup tour fans to catch him in action during the tournament this summer.

The Sunderland forward has netted 13 times so far this season, which has led many pundits to speculate that he could be in England coach Fabio Capello's mind for a place in the 23-man squad for South Africa.

Bent admitted he was crushed after being omitted from the national side's World Cup tour party for Germany four years ago and has expressed his determination at making the cut this time around.

"Last time it felt like a bus had just hit me," he told the Express. "To go to the World Cup would fill one void in my career which needs filling after missing the last one."

The striker is on course to eclipse his goalscoring efforts during the 2008-09 campaign, during which he netted 17 times in 43 games, despite 15 of those appearances coming from the substitutes' bench.ADNFCR-2911-ID-19549940-ADNFCR
