Jonny Wilkinson prevented from attending England training camp

05/08/2010

Jonny Wilkinson's chances of winning a starting place in the Investec Internationals may have been dealt a blow after his French club side refused to release him for an England training camp.

The fly-half lost the number ten shirt in Martin Johnson's side during the 2010 Six Nations campaign after coming under pressure from Toby Flood of Leicester Tigers.

England are holding a training camp next week ahead of the forthcoming Investec Internationals series, but Toulon have said that Wilkinson will not be permitted to attend.

Instead, the stand-off will remain in France and make himself available for their opening match of the Top 14 season against Bayonne on August 13th.

England's first match of the Investec Internationals comes against New Zealand on November 6th and will be followed up with clashes against Australia, Samoa and world champions South Africa.

The latter will be hoping to perform better than in this season's Tri Nations tournament, in which they have lost their opening three games.
