Kerri-Ann Payne has revealed how she plans to make the most of the London Olympics by taking part in the pool events as well as open water swimming.

The Stockport-based swimmer, who took silver in Beijing and will be going for gold at Hyde Park this year, told the BBC that she is seeking to qualify for pool events in the British Swimming Trials next month.

Discussing her appearance at the London Aquatics Centre, she remarked: "It would be really nice to get a good swim in and soak up a little of the atmosphere as it's going to be very different to any competition we've ever done before."

For fans enjoying hospitality packages at the London Olympics, the prospects of seeing Britons winning medals in the pool may be particularly exciting, with other major medal hopes including Payne's close friend Rebecca Adlington.

Those watching action in the pool may also be keen to see if Michael Phelps can challenge his own record haul of eight golds achieved in the Beijing Games four years ago.
