Lee Westwood fighting to be fit for Ryder Cup

10/08/2010

Lee Westwood is using a machine which pumps freezing water around his leg to improve his chances of appearing in front of people with Ryder Cup packages later this year.

The European number one has been struggling with a torn plantaris muscle since June 2010 and was forced to struggle through The Open Championship at St Andrews last month.

Westwood is now back at home in Worksop and his father, John, has revealed that the star is using the special piece of equipment several times a day in a bid to be fit for the clash with the US, with starts on October 1st.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post, John explained: "He wants to be right for the Ryder Cup and the hardest part for him now is to be patient, as he leads a very hectic life."

Provided he is fit, Westwood is currently on course to play in front of people with Ryder Cup packages, alongside the likes of Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy.
