Lewis Moody backing Steve Borthwick for England return

19/08/2010

Lewis Moody feels it is only a matter of time before Steve Borthwick reclaims his place in Martin Johnson's side for senior England rugby team fixtures.

Saracens star Borthwick captained his country for 20 matches under Johnson, but lost his spot in the second row after suffering a knee injury that kept him out of this summer's tour of Australia.

He was also relegated from England's 32-man Elite Player Squad, but despite this blow Moody - who has so far taken over the captaincy in Borthwick's absence - has backed the 30-year-old to force his way back into the side.

"I am sure he will be back in the England squad and pushing for a place and if not the captaincy, then just being back involved. He is an incredibly good player with a strong character," the Bath flanker remarked.

Borthwick will be hoping to add to his haul of 57 caps in one of this autumn's England rugby team fixtures, which include clashes against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
