Clint Dempsey showed evidence he is heading back to full fitness ahead of World Cup 2010 when he scored a spectacular winner in Fulham's shock victory over Juventus.

The USA striker only recently returned to action following a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, but showed signs of match sharpness when he produced a sublime chip to knock the Italian club out of the Europa League.

Fulham lost the first leg of the round of 16 tie in Turin 3-1, but Dempsey's goal secured a 4-1 success in Thursday's return clash at Craven Cottage to complete an unlikely aggregate victory.

USA coach Bob Bradley will be hoping that Dempsey can further improve his form and fitness during the closing weeks of the club campaign, as the Fulham forward is almost certain to be part of his World Cup 2010 squad.

Dempsey's first appearance in South Africa is likely to be the England v USA game in Rustenburg on June 12th. The USA will also face Algeria and Slovenia in the group stage of the tournament.
