England v Barbarians news: Youngs and Lawes named on the bench for Calcutta Cup

09/03/2010

Rugby fans attending May's England v Barbarians game at Twickenham are likely to have the opportunity to see rising stars Ben Youngs and Courtney Lawes in action.

England coach Martin Johnson has named the pair on the bench for Saturday's Calcutta Cup clash against Scotland after resisting the temptation to make wholesale changes in the wake of the 20-16 Six Nations defeat to Ireland.

He has made just two changes to the starting line-up, with veteran back row man Joe Worsley replacing Lewis Moody, who is named among the replacements, and Louis Deacon coming in for the injured Simon Shaw.

Scrum-half Youngs, who has impressed during his breakthrough season for Leicester Tigers, is on the bench ahead of Paul Hodgson, while highly-rated Northampton second row Lawes steps up to take Deacon's place among the substitutes.

Youngs will be hoping to win his first cap at Murrayfield, while Lawes will be looking to make a second appearance for the national team following his debut in the defeat by Australia last November.

With the England v Barbarians game usually regarded as an opportunity to try out some young players, fans can expect to see both Youngs and Lawes in action against the famous invitation team at Twickenham in May.
