South Africa World Cup news: Kevin Davies 'would not let England down'

08/03/2010

Kevin Davies could be the ideal partner for Wayne Rooney at the South Africa World Cup.

This is according to his manager at Bolton Owen Coyle, who watched his powerful centre-forward dominate the West Ham defence on March 6th 2010, scoring a header and playing an important role in Jack Wilshere's goal to help seal a 2-1 victory.

Speculation has been rife in recent times about which strikers England boss Fabio Capello will take to the South Africa World Cup.

While Wayne Rooney looks to be a certainty, subject to his fitness, the likes of Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Emile Heskey are all competing to represent the Three Lions.

And Coyle has said that if Davies was given the nod by England boss Fabio Capello, he would not let the side down.

"If he was given the chance then there's no doubt he'd wear that shirt with pride and he would do ever so well for them," he commented.

The striker has never played for the national side, but did make three appearances for the Under-21s.
