World Cup 2010 news: Wes Brown 'will be back from injury within six weeks'

09/03/2010

Wes Brown could yet be included in England's World Cup 2010 squad after Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he should take no longer than a month and a half to recover from his latest injury.

The Manchester United right-back broke a metatarsal in his left foot during the Old Trafford outfit's narrow 1-0 victory over Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday (March 6th 2010).

Ferguson said: "He'll be out for four to six weeks. I hope to get him back for some of the season."

While Brown's fitness may normally be of little concern to Fabio Capello, the England boss is facing a potential defensive crisis ahead of World Cup 2010, which could lead to the 30-year old adding to his haul of 23 caps for his country.

Capello's preferred right-back Glen Johnson has also suffered with injuries and only returned last night (March 8th) in Liverpool's 1-0 defeat away at Wigan.

It could mean that the England boss is left to choose from Brown, his veteran Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville or brother Phil Neville to fill the position.
