Matt Banahan to miss rest of England tour
16/06/2010
Matt Banahan's chances of winning selection for the Investec Internationals look to have been dealt a blow after a ban ruled him out of the remainder of England's southern hemisphere tour.
The giant Bath winger was cited for a dangerous tackle on Australian Barbarians centre Berrick Barnes during England's 15-9 victory yesterday (June 15th 2010).
Following a disciplinary hearing, Banahan has now been suspended until June 30th, which means he will not be able to play any further part in the series against the Wallabies and New Zealand Maori.
Prior to the incident, Banahan already had his work cut out to play in the Investec Internationals, as he is competing for a spot on the wing with the likes of Ugo Monye, David Strettle and Mark Cueto.
Cueto himself was cleared of any wrongdoing for a tackle on the same player during the first Test match of the series against the Aussies, which England lost 27-17.
