McGinley would be 'enormous boost' to Ryder Cup team, says McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has said Paul McGinley should be guaranteed a role for the European team when they take on the US in front of fans with Ryder Cup corporate tickets

McGinley has previously noted that he is among the favourites to be named as one of Colin Montgomerie's vice captains for the contest at the Celtic Manor Resort, although he admitted he still harbours hopes of making the playing squad.

Ulsterman McIlroy has since come out in support of McGinley as a member of Monty's backroom team, stating it would be an "enormous plus" to have him involved.

However, he acknowledged that the Irishman is still desperate for another chance to take on the Americans as a player in front of fans with Ryder Cup corporate tickets

"I know how much he still wants to play his way into the team, but if that should not transpire then what a plus it will be for all of us to have him as one of Monty's vice captains," McIlroy remarked.
