Miguel Angel Jiminez fighting for Ryder Cup place at Czech Open

18/08/2010

Miguel Angel Jiminez has acknowledged he has a tough week ahead of him if he is to earn the right to play in front of fans with Ryder Cup packages.

The Spanish veteran is competing in the Czech Open, which kicks off tomorrow (August 19th 2010) at Celadna, a course that he helped to design.

He is currently in eighth place in the European Ryder Cup standings, with only the top eight guaranteed a place in the clash with the US at the Celtic Manor Resort in October.

Jiminez will need to see off challenges from the likes of Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington and Ross McGowan if he is to automatically qualify to play in front of people with Ryder Cup packages.

"It is a very important week for me as I am on the borderline of the Ryder Cup and need to get some points," he commented.

Earlier this month, US Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin revealed that world number one Tiger Woods was not guaranteed a place in the contest if he fails to qualify automatically.
