Monty keeping an eye on Ryder Cup hopefuls at BMW International Open

25/06/2010

Colin Montgomerie has revealed he will use the BMW International Open to keep an eye on potential members of his team to play in front of fans with Ryder Cup corporate tickets.

The captain of the European team is competing in the European Tour event and while he still harbours hopes of an individual victory, Monty said he will also be using the tournament to cast an eye over the players who could make his 12-man squad.

"I'll be watching the scoreboards," the Scottish ace was quoted by the Independent as saying.

However, one player who may be prepared to turn down an offer to compete in front of fans with Ryder Cup corporate tickets in October 2010 is Sergio Garcia.

The Spanish star has endured a torrid time on the courses over the past 15 months, dropping from second in the world to 36th.

His manager Carlos Rodrigues commented: "He has even said that if Colin Montgomerie were willing to offer him a wild card he's not sure he would be of any help to the European team."
